Students learn the basics of traditional Thangka Painting, a devotional art form
created with mixed media: paint, charcoal, and glue and canvas.
Students will concentrate on developing skills of line, proportion and
stylization needed to detail the figures represented in these intricate
paintings. In Tibetan culture the act of painting is connected to
meditation.
Our courses are divided into various levels: The first level is a 10 week course which meets once a week for 2 hours; This first level focuses on drawing traditional design and sacred elements. Tibetan proportions and design pricnciples are stressed. Following courses stress more detailed drawings of sacred figures, coloration and eventually the creation of a complete Thanka.
