 •  Visual Art: abstracts derived from news photos of Iraq 2004, photo portraits of marbles

in shows appearing: July17:2004 (Iraq), Oct2:2004 (marbles)

Star Poole began drawing and painting in childhood and is entirely self taught. Until recently all she made was at the promptings of her own imagination; a few years ago she began using digital camera and computer imaging programs to make closeup portraits of her extensive collection of holiday ornaments and small glass spheres (orbs, including marbles). Her Iraq series is, by contrast, connected with events taking place in 2004.
Star has mounted exhibits at the invitation of the Newbury Street Trident (Boston)--where she showed highly detailed star-shaped nontraditional watercolors embellished with aluminum, copper, and zinc powders--and of the Crystal Blue Beading Co. (Watertown, MA), where her bead creations were featured. Other "meditations in glass" were consigned on Rodeo Drive (Beverly Hills, CA) and for over a decade at the Botolph Gallery (Cambridge, MA).
Star has been a juried member of the Cambridge Artists Cooperative. Her art has been commissioned in France, California, Florida, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Her studio is in her home in Cambridge where she has resided for over 30 years.

Artist Statement:

" It's not about me. Oh, wait, I guess it is. I can say that sometimes you want to wake someone up; other times they're all too wakeful, and you want to help them get a little sleep. Like me, for instance! Sweet dreams . . . that can become realities. It's all there, if I just look closely."
