Paul Carrick is a gifted professional illustrator residing in Boston. His diverse interests in fantasy art are matched by his fascination for esoteric spiritual studies. Paul was born May 2nd, 1972 on Martha's Vineyard to parents Carol and Donald who were a successful children's book writer/illustrator team for many years. If you look around, you will find some of their books about a little boy named Paul. Paul went on to formally study art at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. At the tail end of school he first started professionally illustrating Role Playing Games. In addition to the darker side of fantasy, Paul's versatility has also allowed him to make very sweet illustrations for children's books, including the baby animals in "Mothers are Like That" written by his own mother Carol Carrick.
Paul hoped to attend the Mystical Art and Talent Show this year, but he was out of town and also busy working toward his biggest career opportunity to date, an invitation to display paintings at The Maison d'Ailleurs in Switzerland, in a Lovecratfian art show with the likes of H.R. Giger, John Howe and many more. So for 2007, Paul sends his best regards plus a selection of paintings which for him evoke mystical worlds that are simply strange and awesome. Are they places to which humans are invited, or as the famous American fantasy writer H. P. Lovecraft speculated in his theories on Cosmicism, are there places so alien that they are beyond good and evil, only terrifying to humanity because they are so unconnected with our own daily lives?
