Andy had a couple of life changing mystical experiences in 1997, which led him to a spiritual path with a clear vision and mission. His highest aspiration is to assist the Christ / Buddha seed that every human has within themselves to blossom to a fruitful and strong tree. Andy emphasizes the importance of reaching higher levels of consciousness through spiritual practices such as meditation or yoga. He states that "it is every soul's utmost desire to reconnect to Cosmic Consciousness from where it originated. This is actually the soul's mission while incarnated in the physical dimension of human flesh and bone." Andy's ultimate goal is to create artwork that fosters the desire for spiritual awakening in the viewer. He describes his envisioned job as "advertising agent of God, Allah, Cosmic Energy or whatever you want to call the Divine Origin of All". One way Andy is realizing this goal is by the design of wonderfully colorful and symbolic T-shirts, which are becoming increasingly popular. Artist Statement:
We live in times in which it is not uncommon to see teenagers going on killing sprees, times in which we have devastated nature close to a point of no return, and times in which sin seems to have become obsolete. This rather bleak situation can be changed towards a more harmonious world, and every individual can make a significant contribution to this shift. I chose to do my part through creative work because I believe that the visual medium is one of the most effective communication tools to raise awareness and induce change.
I painted my first canvas using a technique called "action-painting" in 1991. I was astonished by the power of this technique which helped me manifest my various emotions and beliefs on the canvas. In this initial experimentation phase my work was abstract, the titles were creative, and the schemes were colorful.
The themes of my artwork matured along with my personality. I have become an individual with a strong sense for social justice and environmental awareness. This growth is an undeniable influence on my artistic evolution. My work revolves around three themes which are as follows: An ecological line with a vision of raising environmental awareness, a social line dealing with social/political issues, as for example with racism, and a philosophical line with an emphasis on the quest for spiritual growth.
My artistic vision is to contribute to the rise of human solidarity and environmental awareness as well as to awaken the desire for spiritual growth in as many individuals as possible. (1998)
While painting a picture or modeling a sculpture there is more to it than just the representation or materialization of my feelings. It is a philosophy of its own, a certain way to perceive inexplicable energies and to handle them. It is like a therapy through which we can relax and release stress. It is a medium through which we can scream, weep, laugh or radiate happiness. For the creation of it, I myself can not just sit at a table and portray or form something creative; I rather wait for the moment my inside gushes like an exploding volcano. Emotions, sentiments, thoughts, opinions, states of mind...are perpetuated on canvas or clay. (1994)
